Lothian MSP, Jeremy Balfour, is encouraging constituents to check their eligibility for Cold Weather Payments as we enter the winter months.
As the nights get longer, the clocks go back and the temperatures drop you could be entitled to cash from the UK Government to help with your energy bills and keep your home warm.
Cold Weather Payments total £25 for each seven days of actual or forecast temperatures below freezing in your area between 1st November and 31st March.
If you receive Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or Support for Mortgage Interest to check their eligibility and apply for the funding. You can check here: https://www.gov.uk/cold-weather-payment/eligibility
Scottish Conservative MSP, Jeremy Balfour, has said:
“This is going to be a tough winter across Scotland, with even more people than usual finding themselves in a place of financial hardship, which makes Cold Weather Payments all the more vital.
“Looking after the vulnerable and those who are struggling is of utmost importance during this time and the UK Government is committed to helping those in need stay warm during a cold Scottish winter.
“While Cold Weather Payments are made automatically, you are able to check your eligibility online and plan accordingly for the winter months.”
