Jeremy Balfour, Scottish Conservative MSP for the Lothian Region has raised a motion (see text below) at the Scottish Parliament today, congratulating Granton Community Garden on being awarded £78,534 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Granton Community Garden, a well-established community organisation aims to enhance their local area by creating street corner gardens, encouraging local residents to get involved in gardening and hosting events with meals cooked from ingredients grown in their gardens, such as harvest celebrations, BBQs and an annual ceilidh.
Jeremy Balfour commented,
“I was delighted to hear that Granton Community Gardens have been awarded this grant in recognition of the hard – and dirty – work they do around Granton. It is great to hear of a local community group being recognised and rewarded for enabling local residents to come together with a worthwhile cause of sharing a love of food and gardening whilst improving the built area around them. I wish them the best of luck with their future projects and for a bumper crop of vegetables in the coming year!”
