Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour for Lothian has described the latest A&E waiting times in NHS Lothian as “totally unacceptable.”
Jeremy Balfour says the SNP’s chronic mismanagement of the health service has left emergency wards in NHS Lothian at breaking point.
The latest waiting times in NHS Lothian showed that only 68% were seen within four hours.
That was significantly short of the SNP’s target for 95% of patients to be treated within four hours.
Jeremy Balfour has called on SNP Health Secretary Humza Yousaf to get a grip of the crisis and guarantee patients turning up to A&E in Lothian won’t continue to suffer long waits through the winter.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour said: “A&E waiting times for patients in Lothian continue to be totally unacceptable.
“We are rapidly approaching the peak winter period, but still key waiting time targets are nowhere near being met in NHS Lothian.
“Humza Yousaf’s lack of leadership has meant he has had to call in our UK Armed Forces to support certain health boards across Scotland.
“That support is hugely welcome, but it must be matched by the Health Secretary outlining clear plans to guarantee patients will be seen as quickly as possible at A&E.
“Frontline staff in NHS Lothian are already well beyond breaking point.
“The situation in A&E for staff and patients can’t be allowed to get even worse on the SNP’s watch.”
