Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian, Jeremy Balfour, has praised the UK Government for protecting jobs across Midlothian through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
By 30th June, 155,000 self-employed individuals across Scotland had claimed financial support through SEISS and 736,400 Scots had received furlough payment through CJRS.
In Midlothian, a total of £9,300,000 was paid to 3,000 self-employed individuals and 12,900 people received furlough payment.
Commenting, Jeremy Balfour MSP said:
“The British Government have saved hundreds of thousands of jobs across Scotland and are continuing to give Scottish people and businesses the support that they need in order to get the economy back on track.
“Over 15,900 people have benefitted from these schemes across Midlothian, as well as other UK wide schemes such as Universal Credit and VAT deferral.”
