The Design Technology (DT) department within Edinburgh Academy have been supporting the NHS and local charities during the fight against COVID-19 by producing personal protective equipment (PPE) gear.
The DT team has made face shields for St Columba’s Hospice, Claremont Park Nursing Home and LinkLiving, with more production in the pipeline.
Jeremy Balfour MSP for Lothian launched a motion in the Scottish Parliament praising Edinburgh Academy’s efforts and recognising the work of Design Technology departments all across the country at this time.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP said:
“Edinburgh Academy’s Design Technology department are doing a fantastic job of using their resources to produce much needed PPE for local hospices and nursing homes.
“I really am very encouraged when I hear about all the ways that people in Edinburgh are using their resources and skills to help fight this virus and protect some of the most vulnerable people in Edinburgh at this time.
“I understand that Edinburgh Academy are not alone in their efforts to help produce PPE and there are DT departments across the country doing what they can to help the NHS get the protective gear that they need at this time – they should all be very proud of the work that they are doing.”
