Touch Bionics are an innovative creator of upper limb prosthetics based in Livingston and are part of the worldwide company Össur, whose slogan is “Life Without Limits”.
Jeremy Balfour MSP, who himself wears a prosthetic arm, was given a tour of Touch Bionics’ premises this week where he was shown a number of innovative new prosthetics that have been developed in the West Lothian factory which will make life easier for people with similar difficulties to himself.
The success of the company’s only UK premises has led to plans being made for a move and expansion of the factory in March within Livingston.
Reflecting on the visit, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP said:
“I was extremely impressed by the technology that Touch Bionics is creating and the innovations that will help people like myself be able to do more things independently.
“We should be very proud that one of the world’s leading organisations for prosthetics has chosen it’s UK premises to be in West Lothian.
“More needs to be done by the government to make the technology that Touch Bionics are creating accessible to all. Currently, the NHS tend to give priority to amputees, while people who are missing limbs for genetic reasons can be side-lined. It is important that this changes so that the funding is there for all those that need and would benefit from prosthetic limbs.”
