Aidan Dodds was inspired to donate the pocket-money he had been saving up after viewing a Save the Children appeal on TV that highlighted the plight of disadvantaged children who do not have access to antibiotics.
The primary 7 pupil from Dean Park Primary School was struck by how fortunate he has been to grow up in Scotland where he did not have to worry about access to basic medicines and this motivated him to ask his parents to donate his savings to the charity.
After raiding his piggy bank, Aidan was able to donate £132 to Save the children.
Local MSP, Jeremy Balfour, who lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to commend Aidan’s kind gesture has said:
“I was very encouraged to hear of the generosity shown by my young constituent, Aidan, in choosing to give all his savings to help other children who have grown up in less fortunate circumstances.
“I am sure the money will be very appreciated by Save the Children and the children that they are providing with medication.”
