Volunteers Week Scotland, organised by Volunteer Scotland, is taking place 1st-7th June in order to recognise the work of volunteers across the country.
This year the campaign is focussing on finding creative ways to say thank you, to show gratitude for and to recognise each and every volunteer across Scotland.
Lothian MSP, Jeremy Balfour, has expressed his gratitude towards the 33 percent of adults across East Lothian who give of their time to volunteer formally through an organisation or group and the many more who do so informally to help others in their community.
The Scottish Conservative MSP said:
“Thank you to all in East Lothian who give their time generously by volunteering formally with different projects and organisations, and informally - often helping neighbours and friends in their community.
“The work of volunteers is often overlooked, but it is quite striking when you stop and think about just how many services and organisations are sustained through the commitment and effort of volunteers.
“We have seen this recently with people giving their time to man helplines and help people in their communities in whatever way they can while they have been isolating or shielding – it is really moving to see people step up and lend a hand.”
