Jeremy Balfour MSP has expressed his disappointment as TSB announce that they will be closing their Dalkeith branch.
The closure comes as part of a wider wave of branch closures from TSB. 73 branches are due to close across Scotland, leaving only 62 branches open.
The closures will begin at the start of 2021 and will result in three hundred people across the country losing their job – a particularly hard blow during an economically challenging time.
Mr Balfour, the Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian, has said:
“It is clear that the way people are banking is changing, but internet banking does not work for everyone and having access to a local branch is absolutely vital for the elderly and vulnerable.
“The news of the TSB branch in Dalkeith closing comes after a string of other bank closures in Midlothian and will be especially worrying during this climate for those who need to have accessible banking near their home.
“It is greatly disappointing to hear that 300 people across Scotland are going to lose their job at a time where the job market is particularly tough, and I sincerely hope that TSB are going to offer support to the staff that are being laid off.”
