Jeremy Balfour MSP has shown support for Scottish Government decision to refuse planning permission for a new block of flats on Corstorphine Road.
Scott Hobbs Planning had initially been refused planning permission by the City of Edinburgh Council to build a block of flats at the site of 37 Corstorphine Road but decided to appeal through the Scottish Government.
Concerned residents, most of whom lived in neighbouring houses on Corstorphine Road, got in touch with Jeremy Balfour MSP for Lothian, asking him for his support in their efforts to stop permission being granted.
Mr Balfour contacted the Scottish Government, asking them not to overturn the council’s decision.
On Monday it was announced that the Scottish Government dismissed the appeal and refused the planning permission.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP said:
“After discussions with concerned constituents, it became clear to me that the building plans were not appropriate for the site. The building would interfere with adjacent listed buildings and infringe on the privacy of the immediate neighbours.
“I wrote to the Scottish Government asking them to stand by the council’s decision to refuse the building application and I am delighted that they have chosen to do so.
“This is an example of the local community coming together and successfully fighting for what is right for their community.”
