Lothian MSP has called on everyone to show their backing for Carers Week which runs until Sunday.
Jeremy Balfour MSP says carers have gone above and beyond during this health crisis and many more have taken on unpaid caring roles throughout communities to look after some of our most vulnerable citizens.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP has used the week to call on the SNP Government to recognise the role that many unpaid carers play on a daily basis and ensure that they have the resources to provide financial and wellbeing support to relatives and loved ones.
Carers work at this time should never be forgotten and the MSP says everyone owes them a huge degree of gratitude.
Commenting Jeremy Balfour MSP said:
“Carers play an essential role at all times, but their work has been particularly vital throughout this pandemic and they have gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of those in their care.
“During National Carers Week, I want to recognise the work of carers in Edinburgh and thank them for their compassion and professionalism; recognising that for many of them this time has been particularly difficult, having lost a loved one who they cared for.
“Many people will have taken on unpaid roles caring for relatives and friends, and I hope that following this pandemic, the SNP Government will ensure that our carers have the resources in order to support those they love day in day out.
“I urge everyone to express their gratitude towards carers this week and I promise to continue to do whatever I can to support carers all year round and push for greater support to be given by the Scottish Government to frontline workers.”
